Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, receive a warm welcome from your private chauffeur guide before beginning the journey towards Sri Lanka's southern coast.
Travel comfortably along the Southern Expressway to Talpe, a peaceful coastal enclave near Galle. Arrive at Selenya Talpe, a private beachfront villa overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Spend the remainder of the day resting after the journey. Relax beside the pool, walk along the beach or simply settle into the slower rhythm of the southern coast.
Depart early from Selenya Talpe and travel to Mirissa Harbour for the first of two private sailing expeditions aboard a luxury Sail Lanka yacht.
After meeting the captain and crew, sail into the deep waters beyond Mirissa in search of dolphins and some of the Indian Ocean's most remarkable marine mammals. Depending on the season, sea conditions and natural movement of wildlife, there may be opportunities to encounter spinner or bottlenose dolphins, blue whales, sperm whales and, with considerable luck, pilot whales.
The seven hour private cruise offers a quieter and more spacious alternative to conventional whale watching excursions. Relax on deck as the coastline disappears behind you, enjoy breakfast, lunch and refreshments aboard, and allow the crew to navigate according to the latest marine activity.
When conditions permit, the yacht may pause in calmer waters for swimming or paddleboarding. All water activities will remain subject to the captain's assessment of the sea and weather conditions.
Return to Mirissa Harbour and transfer privately to Selenya Talpe. Spend the evening resting after the day at sea.
After breakfast at the villa, enjoy a full day at leisure.
Wake slowly to the sound of the Indian Ocean and spend the morning beside the private pool or on the beach. Lunch can be prepared by Selenya's culinary team and served in the dining room, garden or beside the ocean.
The remainder of the day may be spent reading, swimming or relaxing within the privacy of the villa. An in villa wellness treatment or a short visit to nearby Unawatuna or Mihiripenna Beach may also be arranged if preferred.
After breakfast, travel to Handunugoda Tea Estate, one of Sri Lanka's most distinctive low country plantations.
Set close to the southern coastline, Handunugoda differs considerably from the mist covered tea estates of Sri Lanka's central hills. The estate cultivates tea alongside cinnamon, rubber, coconut and pepper, revealing the agricultural diversity of the island's southern region.
Walk through the plantation and learn how low country tea is grown before continuing into the traditional tea factory. Discover the different stages of production, from withering and rolling to drying and grading.
Handunugoda is particularly celebrated for its Virgin White Tea. Inspired by an ancient tradition, its delicate unopened buds were historically harvested using golden scissors and collected without being touched by hand. Learn about the story, craftsmanship and careful preparation behind this rare tea before concluding the visit with a tasting of selected Handunugoda teas.
Return to Selenya Talpe for lunch and an afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast, enjoy another unhurried day beside the ocean.
This day has been intentionally left flexible before the second sailing expedition. Guests may remain at the villa or choose from several optional experiences along the southern coast.
A private boat ride across Koggala Lake, a gentle surf lesson in Weligama, a coastal bicycle ride or a Sri Lankan cooking experience may be arranged. Alternatively, spend the entire day at Selenya, enjoying the pool, beach and privately prepared meals.
The day may also serve as an alternative sailing date should the yacht schedule need to be adjusted because of changing weather or sea conditions.
Depart early for Mirissa Harbour and board the private Sail Lanka yacht for the second expedition into the deep blue sea.
Although the route and sailing format may be similar to the first voyage, every day on the ocean presents different possibilities. Sea conditions, currents, feeding patterns and the movement of marine mammals can transform the experience completely.
Spend the morning watching the horizon for dolphins and the distinctive blows of whales. Blue whales may surface in the distance, while sperm whales are more commonly associated with deeper waters. Pilot whales are considerably less predictable, but their appearance in a social pod would make for an exceptional encounter.
Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be served aboard. The private charter provides ample room to relax on deck and enjoy the open ocean without sharing the journey with a large group.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. The captain and crew will navigate responsibly, maintaining an appropriate distance and ensuring that the animals are observed without disturbance.
Return to Mirissa Harbour and transfer to Selenya Talpe. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.
After breakfast, travel north along the coast to Kosgoda for a visit to a carefully selected turtle conservation centre.
Learn about the sea turtles that return to Sri Lanka's beaches to nest, the threats they face and the work undertaken to protect nesting grounds and rehabilitate injured animals. Any opportunity to observe hatchlings or a turtle release will depend entirely on natural nesting cycles and cannot be scheduled or guaranteed.
After the visit, continue south to Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shaped by Portuguese, Dutch and British influences.
Walk through the historic fort with a knowledgeable guide, discovering its centuries old ramparts, the Galle Lighthouse, Dutch Reformed Church, former merchant houses and narrow streets lined with galleries, boutiques and restored colonial buildings.
Lunch will be served at Galle Fort Hotel, a beautifully restored 300-year old Dutch mansion in the heart of the fort. Dine within its elegant courtyard setting before enjoying time to explore the surrounding shops and galleries.
Return to Selenya Talpe during the late afternoon. Spend the final evening at leisure, with a private farewell dinner arranged at the villa.
